This is the fifth and final week for those training to become Server 2102 Infrastructure MCSEs. The Advanced Server Infrastructure exam is full of virtualization configurations with Hyper-V, and the bulk of this course focuses on the most effective ways to virtualize your environment using Windows Server 2012.

Course Overview

Attendees will immerse themselves in the planning, designing, and deploying of Server 2012 enterprise infrastructures. Topics include: virtualization strategies, high availability with failover clustering, business continuity, PKI infrastructure, AD DS Identity Federation, and AD DS Rights Management.

Upon completion of the course and the labs, trainees will have a comprehensive understanding of how to manage a Windows Server 2012 enterprise data center. Part of the day five itinerary includes review and preparation for the MCSE exams.

Prerequisites: Completion of the prior MCSE courses, or a deep understanding of Server 2012 technologies.

Course Outline

Day 1: Server Virtualization Strategies

  • System Center 2012 and Virtualization.
  • Storage and network virtualization infrastructures.
  • Configuring virtual machines.
  • Using VMM to deploy virtual machines.

Day 2: Virtualization and Monitoring

  • Implementing Microsoft System Center Administration.
  • Self-Service and Automation with System Center.
  • Monitoring Windows Server 2012.
  • System Center Operations Manager and configuring Monitoring Components.
  • Configuring Integration with VMM.
  • Implementing Storage Spaces.
  • Configuring DFS and Network Load Balancing.

Day 3: Highly Availability, Failover Clustering, and Updates

  • Planning and implementing a Failover Clustering Infrastructure.
  • Using virtualization for clustering.
  • Multi-Site Failover Clusters.
  • Implementing a Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) Deployment
  • Software Updates with System Center 2012 Configuration Manager
  • Implementing Updates in a Server Virtualization Infrastructure.

Day 4: Business Continuity Strategies and PKI

  • Business Continuity planning.
  • Backup and recovery options and configurations.
  • Planning and Implementing Virtual Machine Backup and Recovery.
  • Certification Authority Deployments
  • Using Certificate Templates, Certificate Distribution, and Revocation.
  • Implementing Key Archival and Recovery.

Day 5: Identity Federation, RMS, and Course Review

  • AD FS Server Infrastructure implementations.
  • AD FS Claim Providers, Relying Parties, and Claim Rules.
  • AD RMS Clusters, Templates, and Policies.
  • Allowing External Access to AD RMS Services.
  • AD RMS Integration with Dynamic Access Control (DAC).
  • Course review and exam prep.
