Day 2: Spanning-Tree Protocol

  • Root and designated ports, STP states.
  • Configuring and monitoring STP.
  • Rapid Spanning-Tree Protocol (802.1w).
  • Configuring and monitoring RPVST+.
  • Multiple Spanning-Tree Protocol (802.1s).
  • MST instances and configurations.
  • Private VLANs, VACL and PACL.
  • Verifying security based solutions using show and debug.
  • Documenting the verification after implementing a security solution.

Day 3: Multilayer Switching and Monitoring Switches

  • SVI configurations, Inter-VLAN routing and CEF.

  • Using Simple Network Management Protocol.
  • Performance monitoring with IP Service Level Agreement (IP SLA).

Day 4: High Availability

  • Virtual Switching System (VSS).
  • Supervisor and Route Processor Redundancy.
  • Hot Standby Router Protocol (HSRP)

Day 5: Switch Security and Review

  • Port Security and Port-based authentication (802.1X).
  • Best practices to secure your switches.
  • Securing VLANs, Private VLANs.
  • Mitigating attacks with DHCP Snooping, IP Source Guard, and DAI.
  • Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting (AAA).
  • Course review and exam practice.
