Fortune Town
Bangkok’s Fortune Town IT Mall is a modern shopping complex known for its array of electronic goods, IT equipment and eating establishments; open from 10am-10pm daily. It is where the locals shop for everything techie…
Bangkok is probably one of the least stressful places to study CCNA R&S in the world. Although The City of Angles is a busy city with a population of over 10 million residents, its modernity in what many label “a developed city in a developing country” has tons to offer in the way of relaxation. Not only that, if you are a true computer geek, then there’s a lot in store for you at Fortune Town when you want to take a break from OSPF, EIGRP, ACLs, and IP subnetting.
You may have already seen our blog about Pantip Plaza, which if you haven’t, then take a look, as this place is yet another active IT shopping complex in the heart of Bangkok. For those of you already familiar with Pantip, then you will no doubt be pleasantly surprised when you learn that there is yet another huge shopping mall full of IT equipment and electronics at bargain prices waiting for you here. Not only that, it is much less chaotic, and much more “Thai”.
However, be warned; this place also comes with plenty of high end establishments with state-of-the-art new releases when it comes to technology. As such, if you are one of the many admirers of innovation out there, then you are sure to be happy to see what Thailand’s Fortune Town has to offer.
Fortune Town Bangkok, across the street from Central Rama 9 shopping complex, is comprised of a hotel, office space, a Tesco Lotus supermarket and a plethora of tech shops; primarily mobile phones, cameras, Music CDs, DVDs, iPods, iPads and, of course, computers and components. For those of you looking to take a CCNA course with us in Thailand, you can be rest assured we at IT Track have rampantly been through the majority of these stores collecting equipment so we can provide out students with a great lab environment. There are a few used-Cisco shops, and you can buy routers and switches to your heart’s content.
IT Stores
This is the primary reason most people visit Fortune Town Bangkok. Laptops, desktops, PCs, monitor, memory cards, hard drives, software and anything else computer-related that you would expect to find in your home country’s IT store are all easily found; however, we can almost guarantee you’ll find more than you bargained for in Bangkok than you would find in any reputable IT store at home. The staff here is incredibly friendly as well (for the most part!).
Big Brand Names
Samsung, Acer and Apple’s iStudio are both located on the 3rd floor of the Fortune Town complex. Plus, if it is brand-name products you are looking for, many of the well-known Thai corporations sell all their goods with full international warranties included. If you save the receipts (and don’t mind the line at the airport), you can also get a 7% VAT refund on any purchases.
Camera, Hi-fi and Mobile Phone Stores
Bangkok really is a modern city; especially when it comes to technology. Many of the IT shops can unlock your mobile phone, sell you converters and adaptors, and, for the most part, you would be hard-pressed not to find any accessory (real or fake, be careful!) for your smartphone somewhere in the mall. Additionally, there is an array of hi-fi equipment you can check out if you love music, plus, for the avid photographer out there, once again be prepared to be pleasantly surprised because Bangkokians are also as mad as anyone else in the world when it comes to photography. There is an area on the second floor full of camera shops.
If you are thinking about studying for your CCNA R&S, then we certainly recommend coming to visit us here in Bangkok. We can help guide you to find the ideal places to get your hands on the best IT equipment around, as well as where to find bargain deals so you can setup your own routing and switching lab.
